Today was a eye opening day. As you are all aware, money is really tight right now for my family. So tight that sometimes I just want to walk away. We struggle every day to make ends meet. Yes,I have even robbed Peter to pay Paul. When you are desperate you have more changes of doing something that you normally would not do. I’ve always wondered about that but I’ve seen it happening lately. You want to escape from the reality of your life. But there is no escape. It is still here.
Well today,I had a knock on my door from the neighbors next door. You know the ones that I keep the kids away from. They are standing there after going to their thrift stores to get all their goodies. They go to different shelters, churches and things since they qualify because he’s is on employment.
So here they stand on my doorstep holding bags of stuff. They brought over all kinds of food including cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread, noodles, etc. I felt my heart swell with gratitude. These are the people that I protect my kid from but here they are reaching out to us in our hour of need.
The definition of gratitude in the dictionary is:gratitude, thankfulness,or appreciation is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive.
This definition definitely fit the situation. I was quite speechless that even with all of our differences that they would step up to help us. They are aware of my feelings about the kids. But here they are. My heart filled with hope that some day this huge world would be able to extend the same helping hand to another human being.
I guess this was the Magical Moment of the week for me. My heart is simply filled with the spirit of gratitude. So what I am asking is that you reach out to someone you know whether it is just to talk,to say I love you,or to give them a helping hand today.
