Here Burns My Candle - Liz Curtis Higgs Book ReviewHere Burns My Candle –Liz Curtis Higgs Book Review

Liz Curtis Higg’s has a great way of making history come alive again through her writing. The book was set in the 18th century Scotland with a little bit of romance, scandal, faith, redemption, intrigue and historical fiction. The characters are believable which is always a great thing.

Lady Elisabeth Kerr struggles with the knowledge that her husband,Lord Donald Kerr, might be unfaithful to her. Lord Donald Kerr declares his undying love for Elisabeth, but he has a roving eye. At the same time,Lady Marjory, hides gold under her floorboards and tries to keep control of her sons. Lady Marjory was always concerned about her place in society to the point of worrying how her family acted. She has secrets that slowly come out in the book. You watch their family drama going on while outside their doors the entire country during the uprising of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his defeat at the hands of King George II.

I am very excited that I found a new author to read. It is hard for me to find ones that I love. This was not one of those books that I just picked up and lost myself in though. It did take me a while to read it. But I found myself wondering as I went about chores what was next. If you love historical fiction, this is a must read.

I was provided a complimentary book to review for Waterbrook Multinomah Publishers. If you would like to purchase this book, please click the link below.

  • I very seldom read fiction anymore because I can’t find any authors I like either.

Hey,Tami! I so appreciate the review and am glad you “found a new author to read.”Bless you! You’ll find a little less history,a little more romance in my previous Scottish historicals. Start with THORN IN MY HEART and see what you think. Many thanks…and love the hearts! ;>)

  • Oooh, this looks good! Thanks for the heads-up!

  • I saw your blog on the Friday Follow link. Really enjoyed your website. Especially the book reviews. I am an avid read of everythiong but especially romance, and completely love period romances. Thanks again! Maria

  • I’m a new Friday Follower and wanted to come back to check out your review on this book. I love historical fiction that has some romance and it’s been awhile since I’ve found one that I might like. I think my daughter has her book “Bookends”on her shelf at school.

  • I gave you a virtual easter basket. Go here to see it.
