Kids and Church

We went to church at a new one this last week without my husband (he didn’t want to get out of bed)…this is what transpired.

Pumpkin whispers:  Mommy,I have to go to the bathroom.

Me whispers back:  Then go.  (She’s been going by herself for a while)

Pumpkin whispers back:  Mommy,I can’t open the big door.

Me whispers back:  Ok,I’ll hold the big door and be there when you get back to open it up.

We get up and walk to the back quietly.. I open the door and out she goes.  Monkeyboy is still sitting in the pew.

I’m sitting in the back row of the church waiting for Pumpkin to come back and I hear a ringing that sounds to familiar to my ears.  Oh no its my cell phone.  I think okay it will stop in a minute.  And cringe.  I know its on low so I hope it doesn’t bother anyone too much.

Out of the mouth of babes comes:

“MOMMY YOUR CELL PHONE IS RINGING!”

Mortification hits.. I’m embarrassed.  The ringing had stopped.  It had been quiet but Monkeyboy wasn’t at all.  Full lung effect.  So I quietly say as I’m being stared at by all these people.. “Monkeyboy,it’s ok!”

Monkeyboy:  MOMMY YOUR CELL PHONE IS RINGING AGAIN!!

Ok I think I was too embarrassed to noticed that it started again…Guess who?

Did you figure it out yet?

Any ideas?

MY HUSBAND who didn’t know why I didn’t make him breakfast as he woke up late!!!

Yes I’m going back to church still next week!

  • OH don’t ya just love those moments. When you wish to sink into the invisible hole you are sure is right below your feet .. At least they were polite about it and I am sure several were giggling to theirselves…

  • children always bring unknown situations in your life. did your husband make his own breakfast?

  • these moments are why I have learned to leave my phone in the car on Sunday

  • Just for this reason,I usually leave my cell phone behind if I can at church. It’s a little embarrassing to have “Say Yeah”go off during the sacrament. I am grateful to attend a very family-oriented church, though,so even when my kids are the loud, frustrated one that day, everyone is so kind about it.:0)

  • Bahahaha!!! :) Gotta love it when kids say things at the worst possible times!

  • I don’t know whether I should cringe or laugh! I guess I’ll choose laughter because that story is absolutely perfect :)
P.S. I’m glad you’re going back next week

  • hahaha, sorry, but that’s pretty funny. stupid hubby though,I know all about not being able to get them out of bed, lol!

  • hahhaha. better luck next week.

  • Haha. That’s great.

And I remember being at church doing embarrassing things to my mother. Like once I fell asleep in a pew during a hot summer service. Then I must have rolled over or something because I smacked my head on the wooden arm of the pew and couldn’t stop crying! My mom was mortified and we were sitting near the front so she had to carry me all the way up to the back of the church and outside before I would calm down.

  • You just can’t make that stuff up….
    males.

  • I love it! Real life. Leave it to kids to state the obvious.

  • I know people say "its allin your head"or there is noone to blame but yourself. but beleive me,I know how hard it is. I have quit many times and always fall back into smoking. When i did quit i just didnt put myself in situations where I could smoke. I didnt go out with the smokers for a break,I couldnt hang around with others that smoked for a while. that was my biggest downfall that made me start again. All of my friends smoke and when I hang out with them i am too tempted have have a few thinking I wont get hooked again. YOU WILL. You cant have "just one",no exceptions. When you quit, thats it..
