I never dreamed I could be so calm and irrational at the same time. I handled the doctors like a pro but inside I was absolutely terrified. Here are some things that I learned from the hospital visit that all parents should know:
- That when someone is dehydrated do not put them into lukewarm or hot water. The water will actually open up the cells in the body and sweat out what little water is left. In my case, that is what they say caused Faith to start throwing up and caused her to become dizzy and sleepy.
- The appendix is a tricky thing. When it is inflamed, it is more likely to show up on the ultrasound. However, when it is not inflamed it may hide in an ultrasound. That doesn’t mean that the patient doesn’t have appendicitis but it gives better odds that it is not.
The last thing that I learned was that as an adopted parent you often wonder if during in an emergency you will react like any other parent..the answer is YES! I was terrified that something was going to go desperately wrong. She is my baby through and through. My mother’s instincts will always be there.
