My Thoughts:

This was one of those books that I just couldn’t put down.  Honestly, the summary that they gave for the book fooled me.  I was very nervous about reading the book.  To me the book was really about Kelly, the victim who looked like Benjamin Brandt’s deceased wife.  It was about a woman that lived her life through her faith.  Kelly was beaten so badly that she lost her memory of who she was but yet she still had her faith.  She remembered bits and pieces.  I liked how the author described it as being like swiss cheese.

There is a lot of action as a thriller.  It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where we were going next.  There were some spot I wasn’t too sure what was happening.  The author does switch back and forth so you have to keep alert.  There was the developing love between Kelly and Benjamin that would heal by the end because of both of their faiths.  I highly recommend this story.

Welcome to Temptation Thursday. We are tempting your taste buds today with a wonderful, decadent cake from Bake Me A Wish. The cake of the month is the Carrot Cake. Yum.

I was so happy to be included in this review.  I believe that Lynn and Rita had both had the opportunity to try one of these cakes before and were bragging about how good they were.  Well, honestly, I didn’t think the cakes would live up to their description.  I was so wrong.

I received the Chocolate Truffle Lava Cake in the mail on Tuesday afternoon.  It came in the big brown box.  I’m going to tell you that I had a huge dingy moment.  You see when I opened the box there was a white bag on top.  All that was written on it was Bakeawish with a phone number.  I thought it was frosting so I put it in the fridge for later.  I wanted to try it with my husband when he got home.  So you can imagine my surprise when my husband asked why the ice pack was in the fridge.  The cake come in an insulated box with an ice pack.  Duh me.

Inside you will find this beautiful box which I believe is their signature box.  I can tell you that working for so many years in the corporate world that this would fit right in.

Now there are four little cakes in this box.  My first thought was that wouldn’t feed many.  But then I followed the instructions and microwaved it.  Let me tell you there is nothing more sinful tasting than that cake.  You don’t need more than they have in that one cake.  It is so rich and chocolatey with this lava which is more of a thicker chocolate syrup.  I was in heaven.  Of course, I had to have coffee with it.  It compliments my coffee perfectly.  They top this small piece of heaven off with powdered sugar on the top.  To me this was a masterpiece worth savoring.

I personally am thinking about sending my mother one soon.  I know how much she would love it.  Or maybe just ordering another one for myself.  It was that good.  My husband has threatened to hide the other one so that he is assured to have his other one.  That speaks volumes.  My husband does not make remarks like that unless he really likes something.  This fits the bill.  Try one you will love it.

My Thoughts:

Realizing that this was a children’s book, I decided the best way to review it was to do it with my children’s reaction.  The book is written to show kids how to pray by using various situations like being scared at night to asking forgiveness when something is wrong.  The book assures children that they are being heard by God, that he loves them and is always there.  It is a very good book for teaching your children about praying.

There was wonderful engaging rhymes which my children caught onto quickly.  It is written in an easy format which my seven year old daughter, Pumpkin, was reading.  She’s in the beginning stages of learning to read.  The best recommendation I can give this book is every night since we read the book, both of my kids have asked to hear it.  I highly recommend this story.

An Absence so Great by Jane Kirkpatrick.  I have to tell you that I was torn about my feelings in this book.  This is the second in the Portraits of the Hearts Series.  The first I did not read.  I believe you need to read the first to be able to understand this book.  The series is about a young woman, Jessie Ann Gaebele, the author’s grandmother.  Jessie is an eighteen year old woman who is set out to succeed as an photographer on her own.  While she is starting her flight, she is leaving behind a forbidden romance with her married employer, Fred Bauer. 

I liked Jessie herself but I did not like Fred Bauer who is still running in the same circles.  Jessie truly wants to succeed as a photographer and own her own studio.  She was a woman alone during a time that it was hard for women to succeed.  She was fighting for women’s rights without knowing it.

I found the characters to be believable.  I enjoyed the fact that the author included pictures of Jessie’s actual photos as well as her original commentary about each photo.  I did enjoy the historical events and scenes that the author was able to portray so well in the 1900s.

However, I do not believe that this should be considered a Christian book since they are discussing her longing for a married man.  Although, the author did portray the guilt that Jessie experienced because of it quite well.

This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

They have this great new menu with Freshly Prepared Recipes.  I can tell you that the food was delicious.   My brother went for the Caribbean Salad w/ Chicken.  He said it was fresh and awesome tasting.  It has fresh pineapples, mandarin oranges, dried cherries, green onions, and a honey-limed dressing. 

I went for the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich with mash potatoes.  The potatoes were light and fluffy with lumps.  Yes I could have made them myself.  They were yummy.  But the pulled pork sandwich to this day still makes my mouth water thinking about it.  It had carmelized onions, served with a Shiner Rock BBQ sauce.  It was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have had.

Now the kids were happy with grilled cheese and fries.  My mom was, also, present and they had a great meal for a senior citizen.

Now with the main course, we got an appetizer.  I had yummy Southwestern egg rolls and my husband had texas cheese fries (they said it was a half order.. I don’t think so).

Now I know you are wondering how much for an appetizer and a main course, surprise it was $9.99.  Yes I was in shock too.  Great company.  Great food and all at a great price.

Note:  If you don’t have a Chili’s in your area, I noticed that the gift certificate is also usable at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, On the Border, and Maggiano’s Little Italy so this is probably good for most of my readers.

Not only that but my house didn’t smell like bleach.  There was a nice citrus smell in my house.  I’m looking forward to using it more.  It was fairly reasonable as well.  You could buy 35.3 oz for just $12.00.  If my clothes are going to look this good, I’m going to continue buying it.

EcoStoreUSA, also, let me try out another product.  I have dogs so when I saw the Hypoallergenic Shampoo for Dogs.  I just had to try it out.  Lucky didn’t seem quite as willing to try it though.  So I pick up him up and run upstairs to give him a bath.  Have to lock him in the bathroom because every time he hears water he runs for cover.  I warm up the water and put him in the tub and I pour some of the shampoo on him.  Well first thing I noticed was the lovely smell of it.  It smelled like a sweet honey.  Then I start shampooing Lucky.  Let me tell you I was surprised.  Every time I have had to wash him I have all these bubbles that didn’t happen this time.  No bubbles!!  It is always harder to tell if you are getting them clean because when you go to rinse them off the bubbles take forever to get out.  Well in this case it was no problem at all.  In the end, Lucky actually seemed to have liked his wash.  I dried him off and his coat was softer and shiner than it had been in a while.  I do suggest that if you have a dog that you look at this shampoo.  I won’t be going back to anything else.

Jamie Lee Curtis is a famous actress but were you aware that she wrote children’s stories?  She wrote the book, “Tell Me Again About the Night I was Born”.  Jamie Lee Curtis approached this book from the adoptive side of things.  She has adopted both of her children.

When a child, whether adopted or natural, asks you about how they were born.  They want to know all of the details.  How small they were.  How you felt when you first held or saw them.  And many other things.  In this book, I was able to explain to Pumpkin how we felt.  I was able to adjust it to what happened with her.  I dreamed of the moment that Pumpkin would come into our lives.  This book is so close to the actual experience that.  It even talks about the excitement of when the phone rings to tell you it is happening.  It is written in such a format that a small child could understand.  You can feel the magic of the experience when you are reading it. Pumpkin loves this book.  She said that it was as if the author was speaking to her.  She just learned what an author was last week at school. 

The illustrations are vivid and happy, enriching the text and adding to the festive atmosphere. This book is about belonging to a family.  It celebrates adoption.  It’s specifically good for out-of-town parents but its great for any kind of adoption.  You just have to explain how it fits your situation.  This book is a wonderful way to introduce the idea of adoption to your child.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is adopted, is an adoptive parent, or wants to talk to children about adoption.

The advertisement was:  Sing a favorite tune with pal Hannah Montana and this rockin’ electric guitar.  It plays the songs “Who Said,” “Best of Both Worlds,” and “This is the Life.”  Features light-up, realistic strumming strings, volume and echo controls, plus a sing-along microphone that amplifies your voice.  Requires 4 “AA” batteries, included.  Guitar measures 24″ x 8.5″.

My daughter wanted this guitar over everything she wanted for Christmas last year.  She decided to tell me at the last minute as well.  So I drove all over until I finally found it at Walmart for $39.99.  I bought it.  I was so excited because I got that perfect thing she wanted from Santa Claus.  I had no clue that it would turn out to be the worst gift of all.

My husband and I always keep one gift out for the end of the night at our house.  The purpose is to hold that one special gift for them.  Just in case something goes wrong during the day which does happen. 

The guitar itself is fantastic but not the headset.  The headset wouldn’t fit her head or my son’s head.  In fact it didn’t appear to be able to fit anyone’s head.  So I tested that theory out the next day on several children’s heads.  None of them fit. 

The tunes that it was supposed to play were very poor quality.  We could barely understand the words.  They seem to be coming out of a styrofoam box.

If you don’t care about the music or the headset, I would recommend purchasing the guitar.  If your child wants to really act like a rock star like the advertisement proclaims, this is not the purchase for you.  Don’t waste your money.
